transpixel June 17, 2005- Mohammed al-Mahdi, 37, formerly named Michael Sharovsky leads Palestinian prayers at his house in the West Bank city of al-Khalil (Hebron). Mohammed al-Mahdi was born Jewish in Azerbijan, immigrated to Israel and lived as a Jewish settler in the nearby Jewish settlement of Kiryat Arba for nine years. In 1998 he converted to Islam and continued living in the settlement, where the Jewish settlers did not like him living amongst them.
